little joy

Little Joy recently released their newest work. A self titled album that provides what many sun-loving people will need during the coming months. Little Joy is the project that was created through a Lisbon encounter of the Strokes’ drummer Fabrizio Moretti and Rodrigo Amarante de Castro Neves of Los Hermanos. They decided to create a project that was independent of both of their previous work, and in turn developed one of the more unique albums I’ve heard this year. The sound is interesting because it combines elements of Los Angeles’s beaches, and thrusts in Rio de Janeiro’s tropicalia. I find the combo to be very summer ready, and it should provide some escapism from the dreary winter months that are currently setting in. Here is the first single from the disc, and the accompanying video, and a recent studio session performance of “Unattainable” for your enjoyment…

“Unattainable” – Little Joy

CSS’s new album “Donkey” is an outstanding follow-up to their self-titled international debut album “Cansei de Ser Sexy” from 2006. For those that still aren’t familiar with the group, their song “Music Is My Hot Hot Sex” was used on an ipod touch commercial and this led to their commercial success with the group becoming the highest charting Brazilian group in the history of the Billboard Chart. Their main source of success up until their apple debut was the internet, and now the group hits the airwaves with a focused work that has them poised for even greater success. I really like this album, and as a collection it stands up much better than the first album. The first two singles from the album, “Rat Is Dead (Rage)” and “Left Behind,” both got me excited to hear the rest of the album and now that I have I think they might be two of the tracks I play the least from the record. This is not to say that these tracks don’t kick ass, but this just signals at how good this album is. The album kicks off with a rocking drum beat and never lets you down. This album has so many quality rock tracks such as the aforementioned “Rat Is Dead (Rage)” and the opener track “Jager Yoga,” yet they also bring some electro Talking Heads-ish tracks at you that can easily go right to the dancefloor such as “Let’s Reggae All Night” or “Move” two of my favs on this album. This album is a must buy for this year when it hits stores July 21… You won’t get bored with it ever due to one cool collection of tracks, excellent sexy female vocals, and a diversity of sound that includes a consistency of great bumping bass-lines. Enjoy the first two singles…
