I caught Miss Fairchild at Space Gallery in Portland, ME the other day and I was very impressed. I’ll be honest that I went to this show to see DJ Sammy Bananas do a dance set, and the fact that this was mainly a Miss Fairchild show was not lost on me. I made sure to catch their set, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much better they are live than on their album’s tracks. I have rarely seen some white boys bring the kind of funky soulful material that Miss Fairchild brought to the table. I have heard them be compared to some sort of James Brownesque sort of group, but I left thinking that they are quite a gem in today’s indie world. I seek not to really compare them to any other group, yet I think their musical talents take them through too many different artists to really be able to place them. On at least one track during their performance I witnessed a flute breakdown that would have made Jethro Tull fans ecstatic, and on other tracks I feel that you would have to not have a soul to not find at least one extremity tapping along to their performance. They make music that makes you want to dance with all the energy you’ve got. If you want to see some amazing funky music I highly recommend that you catch this group live. Here are a couple of their more recent tracks, yet I really do not think they do the band’s live performance anywhere near justice. If you find that you like these tracks at all, you should definitely try to catch these guys live in the near future.
